The American Lutherie Institute (ALI) Restoration Workshop is a collaborative learning environment dedicated to sharing and growing lutherie knowledge as it pertains to restoring violins, violas, cellos, and their bows. Workshop participants bring a project to work on during the week to seek guidance on it from workshop staff and other participants. Participants range from early-career professionals, to established experts with years of experience representing some of top of our field.

ALI was rebranded in 2024 to serve the Restoration Workshop after our move from Oberlin College where we were known as the VSA Oberlin Restoration Workshop. The move was made to ensure broader access to those wishing to participate and to better advocate for continuing education in violin and bow restoration. The workshop is now held every summer at the historic Pajama Factory’s Clerestory in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. We still collaborate with, and maintain a strong association with, The Violin Society of America.
