Greg Sapp is a Restoration Specialist. He graduated from the Chicago School of Violin Making in December, 1981, achieving the distinction of “Excellence in Craftsmanship”.
Employed at Kenneth Warren & Son, 1982 – 1994 working closely with Zenon Petesh. As Head Repairman 1986 – 1994, working on many challenging projects for instruments of historical importance. Greg opened a home repair studio where he also made violins. In 2003, Greg opened a repair studio in Chicago where he continues to see customers and to provide repairs for Kenneth Warren and Son and their customers. He and his wife Mel have operated a full-service retail store in Batavia since 2006.
A regular contributor to the Oberlin Restoration Workshops, (instructor 2017 & 2023), oftengiving presentations on advanced restoration techniques and the many jigs he has developed to assist with complex repairs. Greg’s cello bridge won Gold Medal at the IVB Competition in 2021 and Third Place in 2022 for violin and viola bridges. This past August Greg taught about “A World Beyond Hand Tools” at a Learning Trade Secrets Workshop.
